May We Present ...Reese

what do you get when you're 2 years old, your daddy is in the music business, you have a sweet, hip mom with good taste who loves annie sloan chalk paint's duck egg , vintage sheet music, clear glass knobs, keyholes, old wood casters  & you need a dresser?
oh my, you get...
'reese'

we loved doing this dresser for reese.
the duck egg color with the aged vintage sheet music on the top & lining the drawers looked so good together.
we didn't have the casters on in the photo, they were old wood &we didn't want them to break so we put them on right before we delivered the dresser.
we don't know how excited a 2 year old is about a dresser, but we know her mom sure was & we were pleased with the end result.
by the way reeses's mom is the owner of ditzie do's' in kingston springs, tn
the cutest children's shoppe & birthday spot around. also see her  facebook page for the latest clothes & happenings there...
even better, if you live in middle tn come on out & visit her store.
thank you for giving us the opportunity to paint reese's dresser.

thank you for stopping by & stay shabby,
sharon & julie

Coming soon ....

I don't know about you, but once the fall winds are in the air, I want candles and more candles burning.  Sharon and I are so excited to announce that we will be carrying a variety of candles from a local company, Kandle Kitchen!

These are the most heavenly smelling candles in a cute 8 oz. jelly jar.  Each jar burns 40-50 hours.  We are stocking yummy scents like Macintosh Apple, Caramel Walnut, Oatmeal Raisin Cookie and the ever popular...Home Again.  We also will have the amazing "OdorOut" candles that are designed to completely eliminate, not just cover up, unwanted odors.  They will remove pet, household, food, smoke or any unwanted odor!!  Sounds good to me...

Sharon and I will have these in our booth at the Bellevue Antique Mall on Friday along with some awesome new pieces of furniture.  Please come check us out at 160 Belle Forest Circle, Nashville, Tn. 37221
If you're like me... you'll want to leave with a basket full of these...

Just ask for the Vintage Shabby Chicks booth
Have a blessed day and Stay Shabby!!  Julie

New Paint Color - Before & After

green, it's my favorite color... it's everywhere in nature & i love it!
i've been looking for a dark green to use on a small french provencial chest we bought . what i ended up with was  glidden's ' dark eucalyptus leaf'' i've also been wanting to try behr's paint with primer  on a piece of furniture ,so i had my new color mixed in that.

before...

the top of the piece was typcial french provencial smooth shiny, formica-like
not being familiar with this paint yet  & how well it would adhere, i gave the top a quick spray with white primer first.
the paint -primer was quite thick, but i still had to use 2 coats, i think that if it had been a good piece of wood furniture 1 coat may have been enough.

i used ascp's, 'country grey' on the drawer fronts, it was a nice contrast with the green

kept the original pulls, i love the pulls on that come on french provencial furniture

the top of the chest was too plain so i added a stencil to the back corner on each side.
stenciling on furniture was new for me so i was a little apprehensive, but i figured if i didn't like it no harm done, i'd just paint over it.
i used a sponge to apply the stencil so it gave it that uneven textured look without having to sand it & it turned out just fine.
i applied a coat of clear wax to the top to seal & protect it
this chest is the perfect size to use for a bedside table or next to a favorite chair.
who doesn't need more storage space, especially when it's this cute!

i would say that over-all i was pleased with the paint-primer & will use it again. the only thing i would do differently is to buy a flat paint. i bought satin & it was a little to shiny for me to have on a piece of furniture.
i hope you step out & try something new on your next paint project, remember it's just paint & if you don't like it paint it again...

as always, thank you for stopping by,
sharon
