Here We Go...

hi, we're back

it's been a busy week as we get ready for our first joint adventure
we promised you an anouncement today so here we go...
as you may or may not know julie has a booth at the harpeth antique mall & sharon has one at the bellevue antique mall
well, tomorrow we'll be setting up a booth at city farmhouse in franklin,tn together!
it's been our goal to be able to have a place  where can share our passion, obession, whatever you want to call it for painted furniture, vintage finds, all things chippy, distressed & just plain old  & in need of some new life.
this has truly been an answered prayer & we're so thankful to have this opportunity.
so, saying all of that (& there will be lots more to say but we've said enough for now)
we'll share with you one of our pieces that we're taking tomorrow

look at this cute harp table, we just love it!

painted first with annie sloan chalk paint 'primer red' then a top coat of 'country grey'
lightly sanding the grey off showed hints of the red underneath
she looks so beautiful

we found several rolls of old player piano music at a sale, so to keep it in the music theme that's what  we used to line the drawer with

we know that this may have been a long post, but you're lucky it could have been much longer, as we' have many things to share about our new move, but those are for future posts
we have the camera ready & will post this table set up in the store along with all of our other things tomorrow
until then stay shabby & thank you for stopping by,
julie & sharon

Prettiest Pink Dresser Ever!

i'm going to jump right in & show you the picture of the prettiest pink dresser ever...
i know, i know, you're saying to yourself, it's nice, but the prettiest ever?
well, to me it's the prettiest ever because my step-daughter, rachelle, did it & we all know when our kids do something it's the best, brightest, cutest, prettiest one...
after hearing me talk on & on about how 'annie sloan chalk paint' has changed my furniture painting she decided to give it a try. lucky her she had an 'annie sloan chalk paint' mini-stockist right there in encinitas ! so off she went & bought some 'henrietta', isn't that a great name for a paint color?!
well, i could go on & on  about how proud i am of her & how cute this will be in the girls room, but i'll stop...maybe rachelle can do a guest post when she gets the girls(ariella & analise) bedroom finished. shhhh, don't tell her husband, adam, but along with this dresser i think she has some other things planned. rachelle are you up for  a guest post?
i'll leave you with  a close-up photo
& a thank you for letting me brag , please come back soon,
sharon

Little Red School Desk

Its that time of year again..."back to school" time.  I used to love this time of year with my two kids, Lindsey and Andrew. In the summer we would have lots of fun things to do and maybe even a family trip to look forword to.  But come the first of August, they were ready and so was I,  for back to school preparations!  So in honor of all the kids around the world getting ready for this fall, I just finished my little red school desk.
Lindsey and Andrew are grown now and out of the nest.  I miss them and all the memories fall brings...For those of you with kids at home I hope and pray you all have a wonderful school year ahead.  Stay Shabby!  Julie

Map Chest

just a quick post to show you this cute little guy i  took to my booth at the bellevue antique mall yesterday

it started out as a blah tv stand
after a coat of 'annie sloan' chalk paint in louis blue, a map & some modge-podge
it ended up as this fun blue chest!

waiting for a new home...

Stairway to Chalk Paint Heaven

Good Monday to you all.  I have a confession to make...I have an addiction.  An addiction to Annie SloanChalk Paint!!  My whole furniture painting world has been turned upside down since I discovered this product.  My poor husband Buzz (Mr. Shabby) never knows what he is going to come home to next.  After a recent business trip for a few days, this is what he saw...
My entire staircase painted with a variety of AS chalk paint mixtures....I love it and walking by it everyday!! This paint can be blended into so many different shades and tones.  I hardly have an unpainted piece of furniture left in my house...thats what scares Mr. Shabby.  Ok...off to find another inspiration.  Stay Shabby!!  Julie

Prayer Chair

today i want to share with you one of my favorite finds.
i was out saling by myself one friday morning & as i drove up to a yard sale this is what i saw sitting in a yard off to the side by itself...
this cutest prayer chair!

well i had never seen one before & knew i had to have it
the young lady who was selling was going to paint it but lucky for me she never did &
she wanted it to go to a "good home."  i thought well, i'm good & i have a home so i guess i qualify & off we went, me & my new prayer chair.

this is what she looks like today

she was so annie sloan chalk paint worthy
first i painted her verseilles then used a very watered-down coat of old white on top of the verseilles
lighty sanded then clear waxed her

i have a few beautiful rosaries that i've collected over the past year that i hung across one corner then added an old hymn book from my childhood church, 'first christian & missionary alliance church' 210 pearson st. new castle, pa
i know you didn't need to know all of that, but i guess i was just showing off to myself that i still remember that  address after all these years...

now she has a special place in our bedroom so i see her as soon as i walk into the room
oh she's so sweet...i think i'll call her 'mary', that's a good name for a prayer chair right?
thanks for stopping by
have a most blessed day,
sharon

Cheering me on....

Hi there, it's me Julie...finally!  I've just returned from a wonderful family vacation to Panama City Beach, so I thought I would "dive in" to my part of the blog.  Sharon has such a knack for this blogging thing.  Me, not so much!  In fact it scares me alot.  So as my first post today, I thought you should meet my two biggest supporters.  My dachshunds...Kaya and Buddie.

When they see my painting clothes (scrubs) go on, they know it's time for us to head to the garage to work!  Here they are...cheering me on :-))  It's nice to have their company and advice when working on a piece!  Thanks for joining me today...STAY SHABBY!

Hard To Say Good-Bye

saying good-bye is hard, even when it's to a piece of furniture...
after spending so much time working on something it's hard not to get attached
i want to find a place in our home for them sometimes, like these two,

meet analise & chellsie, aren't they adorable?

all the chippy goodness  & amazing hardware of analise...

her drawers are lined with an old map & she's painted with 'annie sloan' verseilles

& the subtle two-tone green of chellsie

she's lined with beautiful flocked ivory wallpaper
painted 'annie sloan' verseilles for the main part of the dresser & mix of country grey & verseilles on the drawer fronts

well, i left them at the bellevue antique mall today
waiting for a new home...i hope they find one soon or they may suddenly find themselves back with me again

happy birthday to the real-life  chellsie, who  turned 2 last wk.

& analise who will be 2 next wk.

happy birthday!
you two are  the real adorable ones!!

thank you for stopping by, enjoy the rest of your day

Hot Day - Few Finds

we fought the heat all day & sometimes were on each others last nerve, but we had another fun treasure hunt saturday.
here are a few finds ...

painter's tape anyone? that should last us a while!

sharon is lovin' this piece of vintage fabric, it's just big enough to recover a small chair seat or sew a cute toss pillow. they don't show up real well in the photo, but i love the aqua-color butterflies.
it was love at first sight when julie spotted  this original oil painting... the birch trees remind her of her childhood in wisconsin.  love finding those special things that bring back good memories...
this china cabinet will be a great before & after post someday, stay tuned...

thank you for stopping by, have a blessed day

Fleur-de-lis Cross

i was walking around the house last nite looking for a place to hang an iron cross that i had purchased at a yard sale a couple of weeks ago

i bought it because i like iron crosses, but especially because this one had a fleur-de-lis in the center & i love the fleur-de-lis...
in new orleans, where we used to live, the symbol is every where.
in french 'fleur' means flower & 'lis' means lilly, just in case you were wondering...

well, i didn't find that perfect spot for my cross yet but i did notice many things in our home with a fleur-de-lis on them...
one end of our fireplace  mantel

copper fleur-de-lis on an old 'brennans' cookbook in our kitchen

a display on our screen porch

& this cute shabby-style one painted by my friend, jeanie, just a hangin' on the wall

when i find that perfect spot for my cross i'll let you know in a post along with more photos of the fleur-de-lis in our home , stay tuned...

thank you for stopping by, have a blessed day
